The Horsehead Nebula (Barnard 33, B33) and Flame Nebula (NGC 2024 or Sh2-277) are located in the constellation Orion, near the star Alnitak. The Horsehead, a dark nebula, spans about 3.5 light-years and is approximately 1,375 light-years from Earth, appearing as a horse’s head silhouette against the bright emission nebula IC 434 due to dense dust clouds blocking light. The Flame Nebula, an emission nebula, covers about 5 light-years and is similarly distant, glowing from ionized hydrogen energized by Alnitak’s ultraviolet radiation
