The Helix Nebula, often called the “eye of God” is a beautiful planetary nebula in the constellation Aquarius toward the southern skies. Mondo spent 17 hours collecting light from this target over many nights in order to get this stunning image. The Helix Nebula, also known by its catalogue number (NGC 7293) has been measured to be around 650 light years away. If you look close, you can see the bright central white dwarf star which exploded some time in the past and has caused the large outer ring of gas to expand outward creating the beautiful geometric shapes.
