The Last Generation
In the Bible there is a prophesied, “last generation.” Most Christians would quickly agree that this is the case. But few would be familiar with the fact that this exact phrase is mentioned only six times in the entire Bible.
Each time it appears in the context or regathered Israel . . . not the Church . . . as viewed from the perspective of the latter days. Furthermore, the occurrence of this phrase, when studied in sequential order, reveals the most magnificent of narratives.
Are we now living in this prophesied “Last Generation?” When viewed through the lens of these six prophetic stories, we most certainly are! If you’re not familiar with this amazing pattern, you will be inspired to look again at the nearness of the entire fulfillment! Remember, Jesus said, “This generation shall not pass till all these things be fulfilled.” (Matthew 24;34)
It’s All About the Seed
Do you know about the first prophecy in the Bible? It’s given by the Lord God in Genesis 3:15. It foretells the ages-long battle between the woman, Eve, and her offspring, down to the time of Mary and the birth of the Redeemer, Jesus.
“And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shall bruise his heel.” (Genesis 3:15)
The ancestral record of Eve’s matriarchal DNA is given in Luke 3, which is Christ’s legal lineage (the line of primogeniture). It is Jesus’ blood title to the throne of David. But it also refers to the virgin birth, in which God is shown to be His literal Father. This single, amazing fact is key to understanding what the Bible refers to as the “book of life.”
From the very beginning of the human race, Satan’s modus operandi has been to corrupt man in every single way – most particularly to corrupt his genetic purity. Before the flood, he almost succeeded, save for the eight members of Noah’s family. God’s great triumph came in the birth of Jesus, the perfect man, who overcame Satan’s rebellion for all time. His flawless genome is the story of the seed that began with Eve.
Footprints of the Nephilim
In the twenty-first century Church, there is a continuing and sometimes passionate discussion about the biblical giants. What is a giant? This presentation is designed to lay out Scriptural facts that will give substance in finding the answer to that question.
First, the entire post-flood world was plagued by religions that honored super-heroes from the heavens. In the Far East, historical references pointed to Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. In the West, the gods known as Titans and Olympians featured super-heroes like Zeus, Ares, and Apollo. He is even mentioned as “Apollyon” in Revelation 9:11.
They are called “mythological,” but they are rooted in the evil ones mentioned in Genesis 6, where they are called, “sons of God.” They were evil and rebellious angels who spawned literal giants, who brought on the great flood of Noah. After that, they were encountered by both Abraham and David. Their biblical names are most informative. A complete study of these evil rebels brings much understanding to the complex story of human redemption.
4. Abraham, the Four Kings and the Giants
It is absolutely amazing to discover that there are prophetic patterns subtly woven through the biblical narratives that are not generally seen as prophetic. Abraham, who lived 2,000 years before Christ, fought a historical battle with four Gentile kings, Amraphel, Arioch, Chedorlaomer and Tidal. They represent the four centers of power that extend all the way down to the prophecy of Daniel, who lived centuries later: Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece and Rome. In other words, the World System of power.
Abraham has just settled into the Land promised to him by the Lord. Then come the kings on a rampage against the giants, named by their respective species. The kings rampage all the way south to the Land where Lot has settled, and whom the kings take prisoner. As the war develops, Abraham musters an army. Lot is saved and the kings are deposed.
This entire story is a remarkable foreshadowing of prophecy that would unfold over the next four thousand years. It is yet to be completely fulfilled. Prophecy in the Bible is a set of unfolding events. God’s long view is astounding!
