God provided the Mosaic Covenant to Israel to teach them his ways. The Mosaic Law was never able to save, regenerate, or fill mankind with God’s Holy Spirit, yet God’s plan to do so is interwoven throughout the Old and New Testament Scriptures, culminating with Jesus initiating the New Covenant at the time of his death. Yet, God first specifically promised the New Covenant blessing to Israel in Jeremiah 31:31–34.
God has promised to gloriously restore Israel as a nation with a new heart. Many rabbis hope that good deeds and intentions will usher in God’s glory. Spiritually, Israel has tied itself to the Mosaic Law and focuses on Law-keeping and the Abrahamic Covenant, which do not promise salvation. Israel’s only hope lies entirely in Jeremiah’s New Covenant.
