Finishing the Race
Is This Speaking of Salvation or Rewards?
by Fred DeRuvo
There seems to be a good amount of confusion, debate and acrimony regarding salvation and rewards that may result for the believer. Many read parts of Scripture and believe it to be saying that if we do not “finish the race,” we do not end up with salvation. Is this true? Is this what the Bible teaches?
Author and Bible teacher, Fred DeRuvo, tackles the doctrine of salvation and then moves into areas of rewards for the believer. The Bible lists five different crowns available to Christians. There may be more, but we know there are five. What are the biblical requirements for gaining each crown? Why do the crows exist? Will all believers receive the same crowns?
DeRuvo believes that the constant confusion resulting from incorrect exegesis leaves many believers frustrated and in fear of losing the salvation that the Bible clearly indicates is a free and eternal gift. While salvation cannot be lost, there are rewards to be gained and lost for each Christian, which every believer should keep in mind. The Apostle Paul taught that finishing the race applies to rewards and not salvation.
